There are many, many architects in the Middle Atlantic states. Most are good, some are better. What's the difference between hiring one of them and hiring us?

You'll want to hire us again.

We are a skilled, veteran, general design practice accomplished at new work. We choose to emphasize rehabilitation, restoration, renovation, and addition. There is life left in the old bones of every building, and sensible reasons to use it. If deficiencies threaten your property, we identify them and advise repair or cost-efficient maintenance. We teach your building to happily conform to a new, and maybe surprising, use. We challenge our preconceptions in places where keeping up a building is a trial, such as Cairo, Egypt. Also, where such labor is glorified, such as Charleston, South Carolina.

Do you represent a faith community? Working with faith communities has honored us with our greater professional and personal rewards.

We put Federal and Commonwealth rehabilitation ("historic preservation") tax credits and local design guidelines to work for you. The Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, the Americans with Disabilities Act Architectural Guidelines, Secretary of Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and regulations of the Virginia Department of General Services are opportunities, not obstacles. We managed the creation of Virginia's first United States Green Building Council Certified LEED-Platinum building. Building rehabilitation is inherently environmentally-ethical.

Our principal, architect Brian C. Broadus, has lived in Albemarle County, Virginia, since 1983 and has been a strong, outspoken advocate for sound design and thoughtful urban policies there for a decade. Such a relatively long period of residence has qualified him as a true local. It means he knows whom to trust in the construction and design consulting community, and on which general contractors and subcontractors to rely for prompt, courteous, responsible service to his clients.

We don't know everything. We learn by listening to you, our client, the ultimate maker and keeper of the work. We are your advocate.

Your building, and your design and construction experience, will be the best.

(The Secretary of Interior Standards and National Park Service Standards [36 CFR 61] qualify the firm as Historic Architect.)
